Persian Gulf War: “Let us step up our actions against this unjust war!


“Let us organize no war committees everywhere!”

Editor’s Note: For the information of our readers interested in Canada’s participation in the Persian Gulf War of 1991 and the response of Canadians I am reproducing my speech given on behalf of the People’s Front (Halifax) to the mass rally against the Gulf War of some 800 people held at the Casino Theatre, Halifax, 12 January 1991. We had spearheaded the organizing of the very first protest against the war five months earlier on August 28, 1990, a mass picket in front of the U.S. Consulate in Scotia Square. Although that action initially appeared out-to-lunch to some worthies, paralyzed by illusions of Canada’s ‘peaceful’ nature clashing in their individual brains with objective reality and the motion amongst Canadians, it showed the political acumen and foresight of progressive Haligonians.
