‘Free Syrian Army’ – ‘for lack of a better term’

Central to US disinformation to justify its war in Iraq and the bombing of Syria is the illusion that the new desert army it is preparing to overthrow the government of the sovereign Syrian Arab Republic led by President Bashar al-Assad constitute “moderate rebels,” who are to be accepted as “legitimate”, as distinct from Islamic State.

Yahoo News propagates and runs today as its prime piece of news a video, which celebrates the use of US-made and US-supplied anti-tank missiles by terrorists inside the Syrian Arab Republic. The propaganda video is also evidently intended as a form of confirmation of the deliveries and the orders fulfilled to the “moderate rebels.”

The little text accompanying the video nonchalantly indicates the hypocrisy, which is surrounding the supplies of the weapons to al Qaeda and their allies behind a long moribund “label” of the fictitious “Free Syrian Army,” which the text introduces as a placeholder “for the lack of a better term”:

“The Free Syrian Army, for lack of a better term, was recently equipped with BGM-79 TOW missiles for use against Bashar al Assad’s Armor, and they’re getting creative with their new stand-off precision weaponry. In addition to taking out armored vehicles, they’ve used the missiles against sniper hides, communications towers, and now, even aircraft.”

The “news” is circulated as, proceeding from Jordan “moderate rebels” and Jabhat al-Nusra al Qaeda terrorists “have progressed in north-western direction along the Golan height demarcation zone with Israel against Syrian government forces and towards South Lebanon.” According to the report, “Both of these ‘moderate rebel’ thrusts from Jordan progressed due to massive use of U.S. supplied TOW anti-tank missiles.”

American agencies bring these weapons from Libya into Lebanon [1] and from Croatia into Jordan [2], amongst other routes.

Otherwise, the news itself does not come from Yahoo News, but from a new news outfit, which calls itself Fox Trot Alpha and which looks like one of the newly established Pentagon “news agencies.”

1 “The Obama administration has decided to launch a covert operation to send heavy weapons to Syrian rebels, Christina Lamb of The Sunday Times of London reports. Diplomatic sources told the Sunday Times that the U.S. “bought weapons from the stockpiles of Libya’s former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.” The heavy arms include mortars, rocket propelled grenades, anti-tank missiles and the controversial anti-aircraft heat-seeking SA-7 missiles, which are integral to countering Bashar Al-Assad’s bombing campaign.” (“The US Is Openly Sending Heavy Weapons From Libya To Syrian Rebels,” Business Insider, GEOFFREY INGERSOLL AND MICHAEL B KELLEY, December 9, 2012)

2 “The newspaper said the United States, Croatia’s main political and military ally, was possibly the intermediary, and mentioned four sightings at Pleso Airport of Ilyushin 76 aircraft owned by Jordan International Air Cargo. It said such aircraft had been seen on Dec. 14 and 23, Jan. 6 and Feb. 18.”  (“Saudis Step Up Help for Rebels in Syria With Croatian Arms,” New York Times, By C. J. CHIVERS and ERIC SCHMITT , February 25, 2013) Jordan International Air Cargo, another report says, “is a front company for Jordan’s air force.”
