Why does CNN call Ukrainian troops ‘pro-American’?

Beijing, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) – On Monday, U.S. broadcaster CNN called Ukrainian troops “pro-American,” saying that the U.S. president is considering the possibility of supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine. The largest U.S. television news network called the troops of Ukraine “pro-American” because from the very beginning of the Ukrainian crisis, the United States has played a role in this process.

The latest statement by CNN reminds people of the recent words of President Barack Obama, who, in a February 1 interview with CNN, acknowledged that Washington had made a “transfer of power” in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out that this statement of Barack Obama is “proof that the United States was directly involved from the outset in an anti-government coup d’etat, which President Obama so neutrally called a ‘transfer of power.’”

Ukrainian nazis

“Moderate terrorists” a la Syria? “Moderate Nazis”? CNN’s “pro-U.S. troops,” members of one of the fascist battalions integrated into the National Guard since spring, 2014: responsible for tortures, rapes, burning people alive, and beheadings.

Recall that before the outbreak of the Ukrainian war crisis, CIA chief John Brennan secretly visited Kiev on April 12-13, 2014, where he met with Ukrainian law enforcers. After their meeting, Ukrainian law enforcers decided to begin a bloody raid in the east.

And in early February 2014, that is, still two weeks before the change of power in Ukraine, Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland in a telephone conversation with U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt discussed which members of the Ukrainian opposition should be appointed to the new government. Before that, she made several visits to Ukraine to support the protesters and convince the Ukrainian authorities to meet their demands. She was seen on the Maidan distributing cookies to protesters.

Recall that CNN used the phrase “pro-American” during its coverage devoted to the meeting between President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who, according to the media, was trying to persuade the U.S. not to grant Ukraine weapons. Viewers accused the channel of inciting war.

Despite strong objections from EU countries, Obama said that he is considering supplying Ukraine with “anti-missile systems” and other lethal weapons. Analysts fear that in the context of the re-escalation of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, U.S.-supplied weapons could pour gasoline on the fire.

According to the American journalist Stephen Lendman, Washington “directly manages the conflict in the Donbass.” According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, since the start of the conflict in eastern Ukraine nearly 5,500 people have been killed, approximately 13,000 injured and more than 978,000 civilians evacuated from the combat zone.

If Washington really wishes well-being and prosperity to the Ukrainian people, if it really wants an effective influence on the government of Ukraine – – then it should actually encourage dialogue between the government and anti-government armed groups in Ukraine, contributing to a ceasefire, and not grant Ukraine weapons that would only add fuel to the fire and cause huge casualties among the population of Ukraine.
