Attempts to get away with defamation in the name of opposing hate

The use of amorphous terms like “hate” or “anti-Semitism” to defame and silence people who speak out against Israel’s occupation of Palestine and who advocate for Palestinian rights.

By Mira Katz

A serious issue at this time in Ontario is the use of amorphous terms like “hate” or “anti-Semitism” to defame and silence people who speak out against Israel’s occupation of Palestine and who advocate for Palestinian rights. It is also extended to apply more broadly to matters of war and occupation. Educators in particular are being targeted, with the allegation that by opposing Israel’s occupation or even sharing information which clearly opposes occupation in a general sense, they are spreading “hate” and anti-Semitism. These allegations are then used to trigger police powers to either suspend educators from work or prevent them from getting work.

Troubling expansion of powers to subject teachers’ conscience to scrutiny

There Is No Such Thing as a Right to Defame

By Enver Villamizar

One of the programs of the different provincial governments in Canada has been to limit educators’ professional judgment in various ways while at the same time increasing the government’s ability to decide what teachers can and cannot say or do in the classroom or outside of the classroom. This comes at a time that governments are attempting to impose retrogressive changes to the content of education such as is the case in Alberta with the new K-6 curriculum or in Ontario with new Health and Physical Education and Math curriculums. A definite direction of these governments is to divert from their anti-social restructuring of the state, and in this case of education, by claiming that the biggest problem in education is educators and their unions in order to justify trying to silence them or ignore their expertise. Thus, alongside the changes to education there has been a campaign to demonize and threaten educators for speaking out in general on matters of concern such as the rights of Indigenous peoples, pipelines or matters of war and peace.

Dangerous self-serving invocation of Holocaust Remembrance to cover up crimes against Palestinians

Pretentious claims of fighting against hate and intolerance, and defending human rights are being used by the Canadian government to cover up the fact that its main priority has been and continues to be the defence of Israeli Zionism | LOUIS LANG

On November 25, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Irwin Cotler Canada’s “Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Anti-Semitism.” The announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office stated: “With a longstanding record of leadership in the fight against racism, anti-Semitism, and hate, and extensive experience in human rights and justice including in cases related to mass atrocities, Mr. Cotler will lead the Government of Canada’s delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).” Continue reading

Canada’s despicable role in opposing Palestinian human rights

Canada is playing games unworthy of any country which claims to stand for rights. For the past 20 years Canada’s voting record on Palestinian issues has moved consistently in a direction which defends Israel’s violation of its duties as an occupying power | YI NICHOLLS

February 1, 2020. Montreal demonstration stands with Palestinian people against U.S. so-called Deal of the Century.

On November 19, Canada voted along with 162 other countries in favour of a draft UN resolution affirming the Palestinian right to self-determination. The resolution emphasized “the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine” and “stressed the urgency of achieving without delay an end to the Israeli occupation that began in 1967 and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace settlement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides,” based on a two-state solution. The suspension of Jeremy Corbyn from the British Labour Party (II)

Corbyn’s election captured the people’s imagination and movement for change. However, there was no chance that the cartel parties would tolerate any space being used for the independent program of the working class | PAULINE EASTON

The Need to Settle Scores with Britain’s Decrepit Anachronistic Institutions

On October 29, the leader of the British Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, was suspended from the party because he refused to retract his reaction to a recent report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). This report alleged that the Labour Party under Corbyn’s leadership had breached the 2010 Equality Act through a combination of “inappropriate involvement” and harassment in complaints procedures relating to “anti-Semitism,” and an “inadequate training provision for those handling the complaints.” Corbyn was suspended, it was said, for refusing to accept all the EHRC report’s conclusions and for claiming that “the scale of the problem was also dramatically overstated for political reasons by our opponents.” In response, Corbyn declared his intention to “strongly contest the political intervention to suspend” him. The suspension of Jeremy Corbyn from the British Labour Party (I)

Jeremy Corbyn was suspended from the Labour Party on October 29 by General Secretary David Evans. The reason given was that of failing to retract his reaction to a recent report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). This report alleged that the Labour Party under Corbyn’s leadership had breached the 2010 Equality Act through a combination of “inappropriate involvement” and harassment in complaints procedures relating to antisemitism, and inadequate training provision for those handling the complaints. False accusations at University of British Columbia based on pernicious definition of anti-semitism

A long-standing tactic of the Zionists to undermine and criminalize support for the Palestinian people is to conflate opposition to Zionism — the chauvinist political ideology and its aim of genocide of the Palestinian people — with anti-Semitism, a prejudice against people of Jewish background. Embracing Palestine: How to combat Israel’s misuse of ‘antisemitism’

Palestinians head towards eastern border of Gaza strip to participate in weekly Great Return March protests under the slogan “Normalization with Israel is a crime and betrayal.”

By RAMZY BAROUD

I find it puzzling, indeed disturbing, that Israel, directly or otherwise, is able to determine the nature of any discussion on Palestine in the West, not only within typical mainstream platforms but within pro-Palestinian circles as well.

At a talk I delivered in Northern England in March 2018, I proposed that the best response to falsified accusations of antisemitism, which are often lobbed against pro-Palestinian communities and intellectuals everywhere, is to draw even closer to the Palestinian narrative. Continue reading

This day. Liberation of Auschwitz – Imbue with new life the clarion call of Never Again!

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, we are republishing an informative article by Dr. Dougal MacDonald, University of Alberta lecturer,  for the information of our readers. Dr MacDonald is being publicly defamed as a “holocaust denier” by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in collusion with Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and the monopoly media for arguing against the false narrative of a genocide committed in Ukraine by the Soviet state. The article, originally published in 2014, refers to the anti-social standpoint of the then Harper government, which has been continued by the Trudeau Liberals to date.

Memorial to the victims of Nazi atrocities at the site of the former Dachau concentration camp representing the demand of the world’s people to never again permit the rise of fascism

(January 25, 2014) – On January 27, 1945, the advancing Soviet Red Army entered the Nazis’ Auschwitz II-Birkenau extermination camp, liberating more than 7,000 prisoners, most of whom were ill or dying. The prisoners were liberated as the Red Army was inflicting one defeat after another on the German troops, driving the Hitlerites steadily backward until the final demise of the Third Reich in Berlin on May 9, 1945. For the record: Exposing the falsification of history – victim or aggressor: Chrystia Freeland’s family record for Nazi war profiteering, and murder of the Cracow Jews

January 27, 2017 marked the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of prisoners of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland by the Red Army, shown in photo. Three months before, in October 1944, German troops along with deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland’s grandfather and other collaborators fled nearby Krakow, Poland (68 kilometres away from the camp) for Vienna, Austria. He left Vienna in March 1945 days before it was liberated by the Soviets. Continue reading

Al Quds Toronto Committee rejects accusations made by pro-apartheid lobby group B’nai Brith Canada

In keeping with its tradition of hosting the largest Quds Day rally in North America, Toronto once again maintained this position on June 9. Men, women (young and old) and children from all walks of life and all religions joined this annual event that was held in 800 cities across the world. As is customary, there were Muslim, Christian and Jewish speakers. A large contingent of rabbis from the group, Netura Kartai was also present. The rabbis did not speak because it was Sabbath but a statement was read out on their behalf.  Continue reading

Criminal silence of Global Affairs Canada on Israeli massacre

Picket against occupation of Palestine at Israeli consulate in Montreal on Land Day, March 30, 2018.

Global Affairs Canada, whose minister Chrystia Freeland is busily lecturing Russia on the necessity of a “rules based order” in connection with the alleged poisoning of two individuals in Salisbury, England and – co-ordinated by NATO – expelling its diplomats en masse, is maintaining an eery silence on the premeditated Israeli massacre of the Palestinians, 30,000 of whom were demonstrating for the Right of Return, committed by Israel on March 30. Remembering the Holocaust: Commemoration of those murdered by the Nazis

Top: Memorial plaque to those killed by the Nazis in Auschwitz, put in place in 1948 and removed in 1989. Bottom: Soviet Red Army liberates Auschwitz prisoners January 27, 1945.

Originally published on January 27, 2014 by TML Daily

On Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, the day in 1945 that Soviet troops liberated prisoners from the Nazis’ Auschwitz prison camp, the peace- and justice-loving people of the world join all those whose families suffered so greatly under the Holocaust, a program of systematic state-sponsored murder by the Hitlerite Nazis and their allies, the Italian fascists and Japanese militarists. The word “Holocaust” must be understood in its broadest sense as referring to the mass murder of all those who were persecuted, imprisoned, tortured and murdered by the Nazis in Germany and the countries it occupied, especially the Jews and others targeted for extinction including the Roma and many Slavs as well as political opponents, particularly communists and resistance fighters. So too the Japanese militarists carried out the Nanjing Massacre and many other atrocities in China and throughout Southeast Asia, while to this day they owe reparations to the Koreans for the crimes committed against them. Occupation is a crime – Resistance Is a right!

By MARGARET VILLAMIZAR*

2014.07.11.Baird stop.CalgaryPalestineRally-53International law and principles that came out of the experience of the second World War establish that occupation is a crime and resistance to occupation is a right. The Palestinian people are affirming their rights by defending themselves from Israel’s occupation and attacks. They are affirming everyone’s right to be. By resisting the occupation they say No! to war crimes, to occupation and violations of human rights. By standing with them we affirm our own rights and the rights of all.

B’nai Brith – ‘the most outrageous, vile, dishonest and slanderous calumny uttered against the people of Canada’

How on earth can one tolerate this filth from B’nai Brith Canada? Criminalizing four million Canadians carrying the anti-Semitic ‘disease’? We’ve heard this kind of despicable propaganda before. ROBERT FISK in The Independent, London, UK.

Sunday 29 June 2014) – Not long ago, I was handed the most outrageous, vile, dishonest and slanderous calumny uttered against the people of Canada. It was contained in a full-page advertisement in the National Post (founder, Conrad Black), a newspaper handed out – free, I’m happy to say – on my Air France flight out of Toronto. Here is the headline: “Almost 4 million Canadians are afflicted by this disease.”

Beneath this title is a half-page, very blurred and uncaptioned colour photo of a large crowd – they could be football supporters, rush-hour commuters in Vancouver, you name it; they are mostly white males but include women and with at least one dark-skinned man close to the camera. Beneath the picture, this incredible ad continues: “Left unchecked, it [the disease] can result in violence tendencies. Many times, those infected haven’t been diagnosed and may pass it on to their children, grandchildren, colleagues or friends. Please help stop the spread of this disease before it contaminates your community.” Continue reading

Ukraine: Antisemitic flyer psywar hoax to wreck public opinion

For several months the monopoly media has unleashed a torrent of disinformation to conceal the reality of events in Ukraine, attribute the acuteness of problems to Russia or more recently “pro-Russian separatists,” and conceal the subversive role of the U.S., EU and NATO. On April 14th, Stephen Harper, without offering any evidence whatsoever, went on national TV to blame “Russian provocateurs” for the civil disobedience that has broken out in eastern Ukraine. This framed a so-called “anti-terrorist operation” launched by the putschist government on April 13 against an anti-fascist resistance movement that has been sweeping eastern Ukraine. Presto, an antisemitic flyer attributed to one of the leaders appeared in Donetsk. Behind the cloak of high ideals, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry then ensured that its existence was known to the world.
