On January 13, 2021 a Joint Intelligence Bulletin was issued by the DHS, FBI and NCTC. It is written, so it is said, to warn about the threat of further actions such as took place on January 6. But it reads as a threat to all those standing up for rights.
January 2021. Protest actions by those involved in the movement for rights and against police impunity continue in Portland (above) and other cities.
On January 13, 2021 a Joint Intelligence Bulletin was issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). The Report is titled: “Domestic Violent Extremists Emboldened in Aftermath of Capitol Breach, Elevated Domestic Terrorism Threat of Violence Likely Amid Political Transitions and Beyond.” It states that its purpose is “to highlight the threat of violence from domestic violent extremists in the wake of the January 6 violent breach… of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC, following lawful protest activity related to the results of the General Election.” The Bulletin is Classified U/FOUO, meaning “unclassified, for official use only.” Continue reading →
Disinformation is not synonymous with misinformation. To “dis” is to destroy. Disinformation is the destruction of what is being informed, that which is providing form.
– Hardial Bains Resource Centre –
Most significant in going through this particular historical period of retreat of revolution, is that all the experience of humans relating to humans and humans relating to nature from time immemorial is coming to a head. If that vast experience is not thought through, then we could be heading for a greater tragedy, an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress. It is in this context that what constitutes disinformation has significance. Continue reading →
Second of a series on the issues and goals of the “October Crisis” and the forces in motion, reposted from TML Weekly.
Demonstration outside Tanguay prison in Montreal, January 1971, calls for the release of political prisoners detained under the War Measures Act.
Media disinformation about the invocation of the War Measures Act in 1970 tends to focus only on some events which were taking place in October 1970 and discussion on whether or not Pierre Elliot Trudeau over-reacted or if there truly was a state of apprehended insurrection at the time. Information brought to light in 2010 about the RCMP’s secret plans, first devised in 1950, for indefinite detention and internment of thousands of Canadians, code-named PROFUNC (PROminent FUNCtionaries of the Communist Party), was used, amongst other things, to suggest that the phenomenon of the police being above the civil power was a thing of the past. Since US president Donald Trump ordered the drone attack that assassinated Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani and Abud Mahdi al-Muhandis, a leading member of the Iraqi armed forces and eight other officials, US and Canadian television news has been filled with commentary on the strike and its implications. An investigation by the Popular Informationwebsite reveals that numerous “experts” appearing on cable TV to opine on Iran have undisclosed financial ties to the biggest arms monopolies. They are deliberately paraded as neutral, independent, non-partisan and “third party experts” to confuse the people and put them out of action. Some are also featured by CBC. | JUDD LEGUM
This is significant because arms monopolies and other entities that do business with the Pentagon profit from war, the most profitable business of all. They sell the products that make war possible. If there is more fighting, they will sell more weapons. That’s why weapons manufacturers saw their stock prices spike after Gen. Soleimani was killed. Continue reading →
A state-organized racist attack took place in Charlottesville, Virginia on August 12 as elements calling themselves Nazis and KKK held a rally that ended with the brutal killing of a young woman and injuring of many more. More than 700 demonstrations subsequently took place across the U.S. in support of resistance in Charlottesville, as well as several in Canada. On all occasions, those calling themselves Nazis and KKK have been outnumbered, often 50 to 5,000, or a few hundred to many hundreds, or 50 to 40,000 as occurred in Boston on August 19. The CIA paid a major Chilean newspaper to discredit President Allende and support the Pinochet dictatorship.
Agustin Edwards Eastman, the owner of the largest media conglomerate in Chile who died Monday, and his conservative media establishment were crucial to the CIA-backed operation to oust socialist President Salvador Allende in a coup in 1973 and install a military dictatorship, declassified documents have revealed. Attempts to divert the people from the pressing questions of our time
On May 25, Minister of Canadian Heritage Melanie Joly announced the government’s themes for the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017 under the slogan “Time for Youth and Active Living!”
The announcement came during what was described as “an outdoor canoeing activity” at Kiwanis Memorial Park in Saskatoon. Continue reading →
A portrait of Obama’s spokesperson and policy guru Ben Rhodes explains how government propaganda works. This part is about selling the Iran deal to the U.S. public:
As Malley and representatives of the State Department, including Wendy Sherman and Secretary of State John Kerry, engaged in formal negotiations with the Iranians, to ratify details of a framework that had already been agreed upon, Rhodes’s war room did its work on Capitol Hill and with reporters. In the spring of last year, legions of arms-control experts began popping up at think tanks and on social media, and then became key sources for hundreds of often-clueless reporters. “We created an echo chamber,” he admitted, when I asked him to explain the onslaught of freshly minted experts cheerleading for the deal. “They were saying things that validated what we had given them to say.” Continue reading →

Finally, an American journalist blasts the US media coverage of Syria. “Coverage of the Syrian war will be remembered as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the American press. Reporting about carnage in the ancient city of Aleppo is the latest reason why.” STEPHENKINZER* details features of how the monopoly media falsifies and negates the reality of the forces in combat in Syria, prettifies terrorists as “moderates” and “freedom fighters,” and portrays a war on Syria as a religious, sectarian or “civil war.”Continue reading →

Respond to Coup Attempt by going all out to call on Canadians to defeat the Harper government and also keep the Liberals out!
The UK’s Daily Mail comments on Lynton Crosby’s incitement of racism at the time he was an election campaign strategist for David Cameron’s Conservative Party in 2012.
The person the Harper Conservatives hired in September 2015 to manage their campaign has been described as a “master of the dark political arts,” “the Wizard of Oz,” “the Australian Karl Rove,” and “one of the most powerful and influential figures in the [Australian] nation.”
Lynton Keith Crosby “was brought on as a campaign strategist for incumbent Prime Minister Stephen Harper, whose Conservative party was losing ground in the polls to both the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party,” Wikipedia tells us. “Crosby’s decision to bring the issue of a small group of Muslim woman refusing to remove their niqab when swearing the Canadian oath of citizenship, became one of the top issues of the campaign and reversed the Conservatives’ sliding poll numbers, especially in Quebec,” Wikipedia says. (April 2) – The mantra of the Harper government is that “the international jihadist movement has declared war on Canada.” This is repeated time and time again, in relation to its expanded military operations, its new anti-terrorism legislation, and even during a cabinet minister’s speech on health care. Putting its hypocritical and biased nature on full display once again, the alleged human rights organization, Human Rights Watch, was recently caught in an attempt to fabricate “evidence” of Assad’s use of barrel bombs in civilian areas for the purposes of further demonizing the secular Syrian government. BRANDON TURBEVILLE*
Moon of Alabama (Feb. 27) – Human Rights Watch has been part of a sectarian, anti-Syrian propaganda campaign. It is hyping the “barrel bombs”, allegedly used by the Syrian government, as inhumane weapons. I have yet to see Human Rights Watch equally damning the indiscriminate use against civilians of improvised rockets by the Jihadist “moderate rebels.” Continue reading →

Monument to Jewish Martyrs unveiled in Tehran on Monday
It is fitting that the US and Canadian monopoly media would ignore this story, because it conflicts with their narrative of the so-called existential Israeli crisis of anti-semitism allegedly caused by the Islamic Republic of Iran:
“This week, Iran unveiled a memorial commemorating the lives of Jewish soldiers who died fighting for the country in the Iran-Iraq war. The monument, located in Tehran, has inscriptions in both Hebrew and Persian, and the ceremony remembered the fallen soldiers as ‘martyrs.’”
Demonstrating the necessity of a consistent and principled anti-imperialist and anti-war stand, Haligonians rally against threats of war against Syria, September 7, 2013 as part of its action program of weekly pickets
Since the anti-war protests on Vietnam, the U.S. government has made “perception management” of the American people a high priority, feeding them a steady diet of propaganda about foreign crises, even getting U.S. and Canadian “peace groups” to buy into and actually sell “pro-democracy” wars, write MARGARET SARFEHJOOY and COLEEN ROWLEY*.
(Dec. 25) – “War is peace” double-speak has become commonplace these days. And, the more astute foreign policy journalists and commentators are beginning to realize the extent of how “liberal interventionists” work in sync with neocon warhawks to produce and sustain a perpetual state of U.S. war.
More and more “peace and social justice” groups are even being twisted into “democracy promotion,” U.S. militarism style. Continue reading →
In the 1980s, the Reagan administration pioneered “perception management” to get the American people to “kick the Vietnam Syndrome” and accept more U.S. interventionism, but that propaganda structure continues to this day getting the public to buy in to endless war, writes ROBERT PARRY*.
(Dec. 28) – To understand how the American people find themselves trapped in today’s Orwellian dystopia of endless warfare against an ever-shifting collection of “evil” enemies, you have to think back to the Vietnam War and the shock to the ruling elite caused by an unprecedented popular uprising against that war.
While on the surface Official Washington pretended that the mass protests didn’t change policy, a panicky reality existed behind the scenes, a recognition that a major investment in domestic propaganda would be needed to ensure that future imperial adventures would have the public’s eager support or at least its confused acquiescence. Many people were shocked to learn the news that the publishers of renowned encyclopedia have decided to stop their print edition, such as the Encyclopædia Britannica, the publishing of which came to an end in 2012, after 244 years, or the German Brockhaus this year, after it had been issued since the mid 19th century. The reason for that is Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia which has been become so widely used in the last ten years that the printed reference books were not sufficiently in demand. They were no longer profitable. Continue reading →
People walk near the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines MH17 that crashed near Hrabove (Grabovo) in the Donetsk region July 23, 2014 |Reuters / Maxim Zmeyev
On the 38th anniversary of the first act of terrorism against civilian aviation in the western hemisphere – the unparalleled Cubana air disaster on the coastline of Barbados on October 6, 1976 – we are publishing an informative exposé by Canadian journalist MAHDI DARIUS NAZEMROAYA on the destruction of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) over Eastern Ukraine and its manipulation for self-serving political ends. For example, just one day after the crash, Harper’s Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird was already clamouring that “Evidence suggests the airliner was brought down by a surface-to-air missile from an area controlled by pro-Russian provocateurs in eastern Ukraine.” He hasn’t had much to say since.
Approximately four months after Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) disappeared in March 2014, while en route from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur to the Chinese capital of Beijing, another incident took place with a Malaysian passenger plane. This time Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17), en route from the Dutch capital of Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down on July 17, 2014 over the contested airspace of the breakaway Donetsk People’s Republic. The incident took place over Torez near the Russian-Ukrainian border while the authorities in Kiev were busy militarily assaulting the separatist armed forces of Novorossiya, that is, the soldiers of the breakaway Donetsk People’s Republic and Donetsk’s sister-breakaway republic in East Ukraine, the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic. US monopoly media constructed a false symmetry of violence where none existed. The manipulation of facts included ABC World News presenting photos of a Palestinian family as Israelis. Or the Hamas “strategy to get its own children killed” that was “forcing [Israel] to kill their children.” PETER HART of FAIR*
Striving for a deceptive “balance,” US media miscast the devastating violence of Israel’s attacks on Gaza and obscured the lopsided nature of the death toll.
This started with the timeline preferred in much of the press. By most media accounts, the conflict started when three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped on June 12; their bodies were discovered on June 30. The Israeli government immediately declared Hamas responsible. Days after the discovery of the victims’ bodies, a Palestinian teenager was abducted and murdered by Israeli extremists, in what was called a “revenge” attack. Hamas rockets started falling in Israel, and “Operation Protective Edge” was Israel’s response. Continue reading →
U.S. spy show depicts president of Venezuela as buyer of chemical weapons, sparking denunciation as “hostile and imperialist.” Is it not the USA that has the greatest stockpile of chemical and biological weapons in the world?
VENEZUELA –We Are Maduro • Chavez Vive • Hands Off Venezuela
AP | Caracas (Sept. 3) – Critics have mostly ignored the new US spy drama Legends, but it’s creating a furore in Venezuela.
Officials in the South American country are denouncing the show for portraying the socialist government stockpiling nerve gas to quash dissent.
The telecommunications commission opened an investigation on Tuesday into the series over an episode in which a character names president Nicolás Maduro and his socialist PSUV party as the buyer of chemical weapons. Continue reading →
Advertising campaigns, marketing schemes. The target is public opinion. Wars are sold the same way cars are, by lying.
In August 1964, President Lyndon Johnson accused the Vietnamese of attacking two U.S. warships in the Tonkin Gulf.
Then the president invaded Vietnam, sending planes and troops. He was acclaimed by journalists and by politicians, and his popularity skyrocketed. The Democrats in power and the Republicans out of power became a single party united against Communist aggression. Continue reading →
Some 400 people demonstrated at both CBC Radio and CBC TV buildings in Halifax on July 18th to denounce slanted media coverage of the massacre taking place in Gaza. Far from having reporters cover the event or sending out a representative to speak with the protesters, the CBC called security demanding that the demonstrators get off the property.
By KIM PETERSEN*
(July 19) – On Friday afternoon July 18th in Halifax, Nova Scotia, hundreds of people gathered in front of the building which houses Canada’s state media, the CBC. An article in the CBC of the same day explains why the people of Halifax were disgusted; its subtitle quotes United States president Barack Obama: “’No nation should accept rockets fired into its borders,’ Obama says of Israel’s ground push.”
How should the nations where the United States carries out drone missile attacks respond to such an utterance from Obama? Continue reading →
