Infographics on Measures to Limit the Spread of Infection
An important aspect of slowing the spread of infection are hygiene and social isolation measures recommended by the World Health Organization and public health authorities. The Government of Canada has issued a series of infographics to explain these measures:

From the “Stop Ramstein Air Base” campaign, a new visualisation tool for global military bases is now available at the address https://visualbases.org. VisualBases contains an extensive database with currently already more than 300 military locations and regional military “hot spots” which are continuously updated. A special role is played by the identification of local resistance.

Chart of Israelis killed by rockets from Gaza and Palestinians in Gaza killed by Israeli airstrike | If Americans Knew (Click on to enlarge)
Canadian and US media news reports on Israel-Palestine virtually always mention ‘thousands of rockets have been fired from Gaza.’ However, the media rarely report how many people these rockets have killed, when they began, and what they look like. Canadian and US media reports also fail to compare these Palestinian weapons to the weapons Israel uses in its airstrikes. Continue reading
Context for the first European image of the Aztec capital, razed by the Spanish in 1521 | KATE WILES
The maps, which appear in chronological succession in a US textbook on page 123, show Palestinian land loss from 1946, one year before Zionist militias initiated the displacement of more than 750,000 indigenous Palestinians from historic Palestine, to the year 2000, by which point Palestinian land had been reduced to a handful of tiny non-contiguous enclaves in the occupied West Bank and a sliver of Gaza. “The review determined that the map did not meet our academic standards,” McGraw-Hill spokesperson Catherine Mathis told Inside Higher Ed, adding, “We have informed the authors and we are no longer selling the book. All existing inventory will be destroyed. We apologize and will refund payment to anyone who returns the book.”

(March 21) – What is the difference between a textbook publisher giving into pressure from Christian fundamentalists seeking to censor the teaching of evolution, and a publisher giving in to Zionists seeking to censor awareness of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine? Neither phenomenon is a matter of opinion or perspective. One act of censorship denies facts established by scientific research. The other denies the documented violation of international law (for instance, the Fourth Geneva Convention) and multiple UN resolutions. So the answer to the question just asked is – there is no difference. Continue reading

With Harper and his corporate friends in charge of the economy, Canada’s 86 wealthiest individuals and families have accumulated as much wealth as the poorest 11.4 million. This is unacceptable. Harper’s government and its policy of neo-liberal globalization is based on paying the rich. At the same time, Canada is an integral part of the imperialist system of states; the rich elite from this country are part of a global ruling elite that do whatever suits their narrow private interests regardless of the consequences. The aim of global monopolies is to consolidate power and wealth in the hands of a few. The glaring inequality on the world scale is graphically illustrated below. Continue reading

August 26, 2015 marked the first anniversary of Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip, during which 2,219 Palestinians were killed. However, a large part of the story is left untold. Over half of those killed were refugees who were displaced from their homes in Yafa, Salama, Isdud, and many other villages and towns, as a result of and following the Nakba in 1948. The majority of those killed lived in refugee camps in the Gaza Strip within a 30 mile (50 km) radius of their homes of origin. A total of 1,236 refugees were killed during the 2014 offensive, including at least 309 children. Continue reading

The True Size of Africa. KAI KRAUSE
A few years back there was an exhibition in a London gallery by the Royal Geographic Society, and the curator asked the edge.org group to contribute “unusual maps”. Thinking it would be for a few hundred people at most, I put together a little map that I had made previously in the mid 80s before, then as an example of scientific visualization graphics software (which I spent a decade on, actually). In the event of a Belarusian invasion of Ukraine, the 6th US Fleet will immediately be deployed to the shores of landlocked Belarus.

It is all too reminiscent of former prime minister Jean Chrétien trying to convince the Canadians in 2001 that the deployment of the Canadian navy to the Indian Ocean as part of the Anglo-American invasion of landlocked Afghanistan was done to fight the Taliban. And like current Canadian foreign affairs minister John Baird, who thinks the capital of Syria is Washington, U.S. Secretary of State Spokesperson Jen Psaki reveals a certain gap of knowledge of the countries targeted by US warmongering. The highly educated and famous CNN keeps on astonishing viewers about Ukraine. On May 12, one day after the refendums in eastern Ukraine, CNN placed the city of Luhansk, capital of the new Luhansk republic, approximately in the place of Kiev, capital of Ukraine. CNN’s new political geography reflects the imperialist disinformation as to the cause of the anti-Kiev, anti-fascist resistance sweeping the region: CNN places the city of Donetsk, capital of Donetsk republic, a few hundred kilometres to the northeast from the real locale of the historic working class city. Other monopoly media are as ignorant in their arrogance, or worse. This must be really insulting to the people of Ukraine, when those who can’t even find you on a map think to teach you how you must live or lie about the situation in your country. Continue reading

This Agence France Map was prepared over two months ago. The oligarchs and their backers in Europe and Russia are playing out their economic battle by trying to mobilize popular support for their own self-serving interests and dividing the polity on an ethnic and religious basis. It is also to be remembered that Germany occupied Ukraine and Georgia in 1918, and the Ukraine from 1941-1945. The only path forward for the people of Ukraine is to fight to build an independent sovereign Ukraine which is run by the people in the interests of the people, which exercises control over its own economy and builds relations with other countries on the basis of mutual benefit.
