Dangerous self-serving invocation of Holocaust Remembrance to cover up crimes against Palestinians

Pretentious claims of fighting against hate and intolerance, and defending human rights are being used by the Canadian government to cover up the fact that its main priority has been and continues to be the defence of Israeli Zionism | LOUIS LANG

On November 25, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Irwin Cotler Canada’s “Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Anti-Semitism.” The announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office stated: “With a longstanding record of leadership in the fight against racism, anti-Semitism, and hate, and extensive experience in human rights and justice including in cases related to mass atrocities, Mr. Cotler will lead the Government of Canada’s delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).” Continue reading

Canada’s despicable role in opposing Palestinian human rights

Canada is playing games unworthy of any country which claims to stand for rights. For the past 20 years Canada’s voting record on Palestinian issues has moved consistently in a direction which defends Israel’s violation of its duties as an occupying power | YI NICHOLLS

February 1, 2020. Montreal demonstration stands with Palestinian people against U.S. so-called Deal of the Century.

On November 19, Canada voted along with 162 other countries in favour of a draft UN resolution affirming the Palestinian right to self-determination. The resolution emphasized “the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine” and “stressed the urgency of achieving without delay an end to the Israeli occupation that began in 1967 and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace settlement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides,” based on a two-state solution. Why does Canada celebrate Raoul Wallenberg Day? Why Raoul Wallenberg? Who was he? What did he do?

By Pauline Easton and Dougal MacDonald

The Harper government commemorated “Raoul Wallenberg Day”[1] on January 17 with a statement issued by Minister of Multiculturalism Jason Kenney. With much hyperbole and no facts, Kenney’s announcement says:

“Each year on January 17th, Canadians pay tribute to Raoul Wallenberg, one of the greatest heroes of the 20th century.

“Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat sent to Budapest, Hungary, during the Second World War. At great personal risk, he helped rescue tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews from certain death at the hands of the Nazis and their like-minded allies. Continue reading

Iran unveils memorial to Jewish martyrs

Monument to Jewish Martyrs unveiled in Tehran on Monday

Monument to Jewish Martyrs unveiled in Tehran on Monday

It is fitting that the US and Canadian monopoly media would ignore this story, because it conflicts with their narrative of the so-called existential Israeli crisis of anti-semitism allegedly caused by the Islamic Republic of Iran:

“This week, Iran unveiled a memorial commemorating the lives of Jewish soldiers who died fighting for the country in the Iran-Iraq war. The monument, located in Tehran, has inscriptions in both Hebrew and Persian, and the ceremony remembered the fallen soldiers as ‘martyrs.’”

In the Parliament: Illegitimate Harper agenda has no mandate

(March 16, 2012.) THIS WEEK the Harper government once again used its parliamentary majority to further abuse its positions of privilege and power. It rammed through various abusive pieces of legislation that are not only illegitimate because they are anti-national, anti-social and anti-worker but because they do not represent the majority of Canadians despite government claims. Furthermore, the illegitimate character of these laws and edicts violates the government’s social responsibility to uphold the public interest above all else. Continue reading

The Martin cabinet’s silence about Zionist settlement expansion in East Jerusalem is far more – and far worse – than a matter of mere “complicity”

Bill C-19, the War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Act: “An explicit Canadian government plan to provide a haven in this country for Israeli war criminals.” GARY ZATMAN*

Considering the deafening silence from the Martin cabinet about the Sharon government’s announced plans, and actions already taken, to make provision for an additional 3,500 “settlers” in the Maale Adnumim bloc in illegally-annexed “East Jerusalem,” the recent appearance of Prof. Michael Mandel’s reminder, via the CanPalNet website, that the entirely illegal Zionist colonisation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip constitute war crimes under Canadian law is indeed timely.
