The need to fix long-term care: Workers demand public inquiry into 53 Northwood deaths in Halifax

At the end of June, the Nova Scotia government announced it is conducting a review of the COVID-19 death toll at the Northwood Manor long-term care facility for seniors in Halifax.

Northwood Manor is a huge facility, with close to 600 residents and 400 workers caring for them, where 53 residents died this spring of COVID-19. Hundreds of residents and workers were also infected.

Forums to be held throughout Nova Scotia

BEGINNING this week, the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour is organizing a series of public town hall forums on the Harper government’s changes/cuts to Employment Insurance (EI), how they will affect all Nova Scotians and strategies for fighting back.. Forums are being held in Lunenburg, Dartmouth, Wolfville, Sydney and Antigonish, with more forums being organized in other communities (see schedule below). They will run into March. However, unlike New Brunswick and Quebec or on the National Day of Action (Feb. 23), no demonstrations are planned.
