Sighting. Northern Ireland is coming to an end

Clodagh Kilcoyne/Reuters

Politics of partition: “North and South will again clasp hands, again will it be demonstrated, as in ’98, that the pressure of a common exploitation can make enthusiastic rebels out of a Protestant working class, earnest champions of civil and religious liberty out of Catholics, and out of both a united social democracy.” (James Connolly, quoted in Peter Berresford Ellis, A History of the Irish Working Class, Pluto [1985] 1996, p.342; no source.)

May 2021 marked a turning point in the Palestinian anti-colonial struggle for national liberation.

Sighting. Photos from all over the world supporting the Palestinian resistance and protesting the crimes of the occupiers

On May 15, 2021, the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba (the Catastrophe), hundreds of militant mass protests were held worldwide to stand with the Palestinian people and their heroic resistance to the Zionist occupiers. This included 17 cities across Canada and Quebec from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Courtenay, BC. In London, England, organizers said at least 100,000 people protested. In Paris, France and Berlin, Germany demonstrators were brutally dispersed by police using water canons. In Greece, protests were held in Athens while a hundred Greek unions demanded that the crimes against the people of Palestine STOP NOW. A group of Lebanese youth with Palestinian flags climbed the border wall with Gaza to show their solidarity.

Despite the so-called ceasefire, demonstrations continued on May 21. Over 200,000 demonstrated in London — the biggest protest in support of Palestine ever. In New York. For the first time there has not been a single Zionist demonstration in support of Israel in Canada or United States. In New York, over 100,000 Jews demonstrated against Israel.

Stand with Indian farmers! Increase use of dirty tricks to suppress farmers’ movement

The power struggle between the movement of Indian farmers and the elites in power in India continues. The farmers have the support of the working people of all India as well as abroad. They are demanding the repeal of three neo-liberal farm laws which will dispossess them due to their aim of serving narrow private interests. The Indian ruling elites are now adopting dirty tricks of all kinds to defeat the farmers. These go from misuse of laws which target individual farmers to break their ranks, and the dirty tactics of political police to threaten and discourage the farmers. Continue reading

Harvest Full Moon Tonight; ‘Blue Moon’ Coming on Halloween

A full moon will appear in the evening sky today. The Harvest Moon will appear nearly opposite the sun at about 5:05pm EDT. This brighter, larger moon occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, and was traditionally said to be bright enough to guide farmers’ work late into the night. The full moon will last through Saturday morning. October will see a rare “Blue Moon,” the second full moon in a calendar month, on Halloween.

By Samidoun

Demonstration In Montreal, August 9

The Days of Resistance for Palestine between August 7 and 9, brought together thousands of organizers and supporters of justice for Palestine around the world to stand with the Palestinian people, their resistance to colonization, annexation and occupation and their struggle for justice, return and liberation throughout Palestine, from the river to the sea.

These events included protests, car caravans, art and cultural interventions and public educational events, all in support of the Palestinian people and their right to resist.
