Terrorist attacks in Belgium, Turkey and Iraq: No to both state terrorism and individual acts of terror!

Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist), March 22, 2016

THE Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) condemns the devastating bombings which took place in Brussels, Belgium on the morning of March 22, leaving more than two dozen dead and nearly two hundred wounded, as well as brutal crimes on the same scale in Ankara, Turkey on March 13 and in two locations in Iraq on March 6 and March 21.

CPC(M-L) rejects all forms of terrorism, both state terrorism and individual acts of terror. CPC(M-L) also condemns the use of such events as a pretext to step up imperialist war preparations, invasions and aggression to bring about “regime change.” We call on Canadians to also oppose all actions by the big powers which criminalize the right to conscience of human beings in the name of defending security, opposing “radicalization,” defending civilized values and other pretexts. Anniversary of introduction of Bill C-51, Anti-Terrorism Act 2015

Liberals’ defence of secret police powers, privilege and impunity does not bode well. Renewal Update

Just over one year ago on January 30, 2015 the Harper government introduced Bill C-51, legislation which sanctions black ops and state terror against Canadians as well as other peoples abroad. The bill was acknowledged by broad sections of Canadian society, from workers, Indigenous peoples, intellectuals and experts as being in contempt of the rule of law. It generated broad discussion among all sections of the people as to its meaning and what could be done. Continue reading

US: Terror network or lone wolf?

Disparate US legal treatment of Muslims and the Radical Right. Political interests define terrorism and atrocities in conjunction to whom it is perpetrated by and against, and then use this to divide the people on a religious basis; Muslims in particular are singled out, hiding that many countries where the majority of the citizens are Muslims have been destroyed by the U.S. and its NATO allies. “In the nearly 14 years since 9/11, more people have died in the U.S. from politically-motivated violence perpetrated by right-wing militants than by Muslim militants.” The latter are virtually ignored. * on June 19, 2015

This article appeared in the Spring 2015 issue of The Public Eye magazine.

In April 2014, an armed encampment formed at the Nevada cattle ranch of Cliven Bundy as news spread through militia networks about the confrontation between the 67-year-old rancher and the Bureau of Land Management. The BLM began to impound Bundy’s cows after he’d failed to pay grazing fees for approximately 20 years, claiming the federal government had no right to regulate the public land where he brought his livestock. Confronted with this armed encampment, the federal officials backed down, ultimately returning Bundy’s cows. He was not arrested for the confrontation,1 and as of December, he bragged to reporters, he was continuing to graze his cattle, for free, on federal land.2 Most media accounts treated Bundy as just a cantankerous oddball or, as an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times put it, “a scofflaw with screwy ideas about the Constitution.”Continue reading

Canadians demand repeal of Bill C-51 and troops out of Iraq and Syria

Anniversary of October 22 Shooting in Ottawa

October 22 marked the first anniversary of the death of Corporal Nathan Cirillo in Ottawa and the subsequent lockdown of the city by security services following which the Harper government unleashed an unprecedented campaign of fear-mongering to justify depriving Canadians of their rights. Editorial of Renewal Update:

On this occasion Renewal Update sends its condolences to the family of Nathan Cirillo as well as warrant officer Patrice Vincent who was killed in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on October 20, 2014. We also express condolences to Andrea Polko, Nathan Cirillo’s girlfriend, who had the courage to point out under the circumstances surrounding Nathan Cirillo’s killing that Canadians should use the occasion to reflect on the lack of adequate services for individuals with serious mental health issues Continue reading
