Harper government’s subservience to Senator McCain and US interests (2)

By TONY SEED

The relations between the Government of Canada and U.S. warmonger Senator John McCain are indicative of the subservient relations with the U.S. imperialists that the Harper government imposes on Canada, and what to expect from this year’s Halifax war conference.

Illegitimate honorary degree

On June 18, 2013 then Defence Minister Peter MacKay went to Washington, DC to consult with newly-installed U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. News agencies carried brief reports that the topics included Canada’s participation in Obama’s Asia Pivot strategy and the continued deployment of Canadian warships and aircraft to the Caribbean and off the Pacific coast of Central America. MacKay reaffirmed this commitment in a keynote address to the Inter-American Defense Board of the Organization of American States, also meeting in Washington that same day. Continue reading

THERE is no alternative but to call things by their name. Anyone with minimal common sense can observe without much effort how little national dignity remains in Ottawa, where all kinds of anti-patriotic actions, national treason and political double-dealing reign supreme and any kind of moral and civic obligation to the Canadian people and their country is denied.

Normally we do not post photos of reactionaries, but this one is so repulsive, disgraceful and treasonous that it must be seen to believed, especially by those who doubt or camouflage the servile relationship between the Harper quislings and the USA and its black content. Many newspapers in Canada carried brief news items of the event in question but, perhaps worried about a hostile response from readers, suppressed the photo. The event itself was swept aside by the media’s drum roll on the Syrian crisis – and as if Canadians should simply accept this as just another passing event in which they should have no stake or concern, and which they cannot change in any case. Hagel: Asia ‘top of the list’ of Pentagon priorities

In June then Defence Minister Peter MacKay flew to Washington where, among other things he met with Obama’s latest Defense Secretary, Chuck Hagel. Peter Van Praagh, President of Halifax International Security Forum, then confirmed that the American warmonger will give the keynote speech opening the war conference on Friday, November 22nd.

The USS Gerald Ford, the Pentagon’s lethal weapon designed to menace Asia, was inaugurated on November 11, at Norfolk in the state of Virginia, in a triumphal ceremony. Yet the nuclear carrier is only 70 per cent complete.

The Hill (Oct. 28) – THE Obama administration’s military shift to Asia still tops the Pentagon’s budget blueprint as the department girds for another round of budget cuts under sequestration.

The planned pivot “remains at the top of the list” of the department’s investment strategy for the coming years, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Monday at the Pentagon. Continue reading

THE Halifax War Conference, aka the Halifax International Security Forum, held its first meeting in November 2009. The conference was part and parcel of the NATO aggressive military alliance to reconfigure itself with a “new security doctrine” to replace that of “humanitarian intervention” introduced during the 1999 aggression against Yugoslavia and the first absorption into NATO of states of the former Soviet bloc.

In a statement issued to oppose the first conference in 2009, CPC(M-L) pointed out:

“The demand for this ‘new doctrine’ is impelled by the crisis of NATO itself. After eight years of occupation of Afghanistan under the pretext of opposing terrorism, NATO has been unable to quell the important resistance of the Afghan people. The people of Afghanistan refuse to accept NATO’s ‘international security assistance’ and the peoples of NATO’s member countries have not been convinced of the nobility of the war or NATO’s present course and its raison d’être.”

The current website of the Halifax War Conference describes its history as follows: Continue reading
