Canada’s strategic critical minerals: Who decides? | Fernand Deschamps
TML Weekly explained in February how Canada and Quebec are being further integrated into the U.S. imperialist economy and war machine through the Canada-U.S. Joint Action Plan on Critical Minerals Collaboration. A recent Quebec government announcement reveals that the next step is to build infrastructure to guarantee a supply chain to ship these critical minerals to the United States. Continue reading

Say No! to Fortress North America! No to War Preparations and Monopoly Rule! Down with Obama’s Politics of Drone Assassination! Canada Needs an Anti-War Government! Obama and Peña Nieto Go Home!
The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) calls on Canadians and Quebeckers to firmly oppose the presence in Canada of U.S war president Barack Obama and his Mexican counterpart Enrique Peña Nieto. Go all out to oppose the 10th North American Leaders Neo-liberal War Summit taking place in Ottawa on June 29. The Summit aims to disarm the resistance of the people and step up the criminal activities that put all the human, material and natural resources of the peoples of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico at the disposal of the most powerful monopolies, concentrate their power and privileges on a supranational basis, destroy the anti-war public opinion of the people and mobilize them behind the criminal U.S.-led wars of aggression and occupation and Obama’s politics of drone assassination. Since the New Year, a number of news reports have raised the problem of Canadian children, some just toddlers, being on no-fly lists without any explanation as to why this is the case. The federal government has responded by reiterating instructions that airlines are not to subject passengers under 18 whose names appear on a no-fly list to additional security screening. Discussion of oil prices | K.C. ADAMS
Oil has become a strategic resource in the modern world. Oil is necessary for industrial mass production, transportation and warfare.
A human-centred outlook towards oil regards the resource as necessary for mutual development of all peoples to a modern standard wherein all nations are regarded as equal without reference to size or development, where the rights of all peoples are affirmed and force is not used to settle conflicts amongst nations, and the short and long term consequences of the use of oil on the social and natural environments are important considerations in nation- building.
In hearings into the Shiprider program which has U.S. border agents enforcing Canadian law on Canadian seaways, RCMP Chief Superintendent Joe Oliver, the Mounties’ director general for border integrity, stated: “We recognized early that this approach would raise concerns about sovereignty, of privacy, and civil liberties of Canadians. We said ‘Let’s take baby steps, let’s start with two agencies to test the concept, let’s demonstrate to Canadians and Americans that such an approach might work.” These “baby steps” are taken on a regular basis to keep Canadians unaware of the extent to which the Harper government has placed Canada under U.S. command. “US forces make ‘baby steps’ into Canada,” November 14, 2013 Continue reading

REPRESENTATIVES of Canadian maritime port workers have denounced draconian “security” measures aimed at criminalizing their rights. Under the aegis of the “war on terror” of the Bush administration, the federal government announced by executive order on 16 November 2006 that maritime port workers in Canada will be required to pass background checks. News agency reports are vague about both the origin of the demand and the content of the new Marine Transportation Security Regulations. Continue reading

HALIFAX (April 19, 2005) – From April 4 to 8 US Homeland Security carried out a massive exercise, “Exercise Triple Play,” which included the provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, home of the strategic port of Halifax where US President George W Bush “visited” on December 3, speaking to 300 mainly homeland security personnel at Pier 21.
According to a press release on the Homeland Security website, the exercise was the largest ever conducted by the US, involving some 10,000 people at various levels of government in the United States, 19 Canadian federal departments and agencies as well as Britain. The irony of all of this is that, after such an intensive mobilization at the expense of millions of dollars, you couldn’t tell it by the media. A Google search reveals that there has so far been a complete media blackout in Canada on the exercise following the initial announcement one month ago.
This raises the question: was this exercise a “preventive” exercise or a totally criminal blackmail of gigantic proportions? Continue reading
