The dysentery of the $10 million-a-year journalist: Brian Williams back story

Media-CulpaThe anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, which CBC News describes, in all seriousness, “as one of the most respected TV news organizations in the world.” The media is in a tizzy, flabbergasted about the lies and “memory loss” of a colleague, whom they present as a lone journalist.

NY Post – Williams claimed to have gotten dysentery from drinking floodwater and seeing dead bodies float past his hotel in the New Orleans French Quarter while covering Hurricane Katrina.

However, the The New Orleans Advocate noted that the French Quarter was not flooded and quoted a local health expert who did not recall anyone getting such a stomach ailment. Continue reading

Disinformation on war against Syria and the dogs of war – think tanks, ‘experts’ and media

The U.S. military complex ties of ‘experts’ and think tanks who justify intervention against Syria and Iraq under the pretext of ‘war on terrorism’

Media-CulpaThe following report by LEE FANG in The Nation documents the military industry ties of selected U.S. media commentators and major think tanks that are participating in media warmongering and disinformation on Syria, Iraq and Islam. They are deliberately paraded as neutral, independent, non-partisan and “third party experts” to confuse the people and put them out of action. Their role is not unique to nor limited to the USA. The disinformation of these American “experts” are also widely broadcast by the media in annexed Canada.  Continue reading

Disinformation on gas attacks in Syria (13): On the role of the dogs of war – think tanks, ‘experts’ and media

An analysis of the U.S. military industry ties of ‘experts’ and think tanks who ‘debated’ intervention against Syria

grim reaperThe following report documents the military industry ties of 22 U.S. media commentators and seven major think tanks that participated in media warmongering and disinformation on Syria. They are deliberately paraded as neutral, independent, non-partisan and “third party experts” to confuse the people and put them out of action. These conclusions are not unique to the USA. The disinformation of these media commentators are also widely broadcast in Canada. Stephen Hadley and numerous other individuals and organizations cited in this report are the same high-profile touts of U.S. imperialist strategy invited to present at the annual Halifax International Security Forum aka Halifax War Conference, which increasingly dictates the policy of the Canadian state. Furthermore, a 2001 study of role of Canadian “experts” and think tanks in advocating the “war on terror” in the Canadian media by Shunpiking Magazine revealed a similar modus operandi. – Tony Seed) (download pdf of report)

Public Accountability Initiative (Oct. 11, 2013) – DURING the public debate around the question of whether to attack Syria, Stephen Hadley, former national security adviser to George W. Bush, made a series of high-profile media appearances. Hadley argued strenuously for military intervention in appearances on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and Bloomberg TV, and authored a Washington Post op-ed headlined “To stop Iran, Obama must enforce red lines with Assad.” Continue reading

For your information: The Pentagon military analyst program

Media-CulpaTHIS indepth article, whereby “Internal Pentagon documents repeatedly refer to the military analysts as ‘message force multipliers’ or ‘surrogates’ who could be counted on to deliver administration ‘themes and messages’ to millions of Americans ‘in the form of their own opinions.’ …” concerns the U.S. Pentagon military analyst program. In parallel, something very similar unfolded in the Canadian media, whereby “analysts” have been presented by the media as “independent” third party “authorities” without disclosing their military credentials and real affiliations. They include Janice Gross Stein (DND Chair Strategic Forum), Gynne Dyer (Board, Royal Military College), David Charters (Reserve officer), and others from “foreign policy” and “strategic studies” centres financed by the Department of National Defence. –TS

[Sourcewatch] – THE Pentagon military analyst program was launched in early 2002 by then-Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Victoria Clarke. The idea was to recruit “key influentials’ to help sell a wary public on “a possible Iraq invasion.” Former NBC military analyst Kenneth Allard called the effort “psyops on steroids.” [1] Continue reading

The return of PSYOPS

Media-CulpaU.S.military’s media manipulation in advance of the recent attack on Fallujah demands more investigation, says FAIR, the media watchdog group

THE Los Angeles Times revealed this week (12/1/04) that the U.S. military lied to CNN in the course of executing psychological warfare operations, or PSYOPS, in advance of the recent attack on Fallujah. This incident raises serious questions about government disinformation and journalistic credibility, but recent discussions of the government’s propaganda plans have excluded some valuable context. On the role of the media to facilitate the disinformation of the U.S. state

Media-CulpaThree items on a U.S. psychological operation suppressed by the American monopoly media and obviously never mentioned on “Reliable Sources,” CNN’s own media monitoring program hosted by Howard Kurtz. (Postscript: In May 2013, Kurtz, the American journalist who publicly defended the war on Iraq on CNN along with a legion of generals parading as “analysts” as the bombs began to fall on Baghdad, was cashiered by Newsweek from The Daily Beast, allegedly over his boneheaded reporting about gay basketball star Jason Collins.)

Why were government propaganda experts working on news at CNN?

By FAIR (Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting)*

(March 27, 2000) – REPORTS in the Dutch newspaper Trouw (2/21/00, 2/25/00) and France’s Intelligence Newsletter (2/17/00) have revealed that several officers from the US Army’s 4th Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Group at Ft. Bragg worked in the news division at CNN’s Atlanta headquarters last year, starting in the final days of the Kosovo War. Continue reading
