Murky affair of accused British Royal Navy sailors gets murkier

Aberration of due process in Nova Scotia

By TONY SEED

2014.10.25.Toronto-Anti-War-08cr3Four British naval personnel accused of a heinous crime have been moved from CFB Stadacona in Halifax to British base in Alberta. The Harper government, its Department of National Defence and Maritime Command are making special private arrangements for the British soldiers, and the courts and the crown in Halifax are letting them get away with it.

News agencies report that on May 1st the head of Maritime Command of the Canadian Forces ordered four British Royal Navy sailors – accused of sexual assault at a military barracks at CFB 12 Wing Shearwater – to leave the CFB Stadacona military base in Halifax, where they had resided since April 21, by the end of the day. With the sanction of the crown prosecutor’s office and a Nova Scotian provincial court, they were transferred to the British Army Training Unit in Suffield, Alberta (BATUS), which is leased from the Canadian Department of National Defence. [1] How the soldiers were transferred from one end of the country virtually to the other has not been revealed. Continue reading

British Royal Navy sailors arrested and charged for alleged gang rape in Halifax

2007.HeaderUSSWasp2The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service commander admitted that the reports were “disturbing.” The substantive issue of the Rule of Law, the presence of foreign military forces in Canada, whether in the form of U.S. bases or “visiting” marines, troops and warships, and the culture of militarization is not addressed. It is enough to have disastrous social consequences for the people, particularly young women and girls. TONY SEED

CFB Suffield: Britain to train thousands of troops in Canada

The CFB Suffield announcement was made as “business as usual” to keep Canadians unaware of the extent to which the territory of Canada is being consistently used by the NATO powers – the USA in the first place, which considers Canada to be its front yard – to prepare war and even as a launch pad for intervention against other nations and peoples.

110625-StJohnsMarineRescueCentre-02WHERE does the British Army send its troops to train for war when it has been kicked out of a North African country asserting its independence and sovereignty?

Which country then allows the British Army to use its territory to wage war against an independent and sovereign country in Latin America?

And which country recently changed all the names of its armed forces units to re-incorporate the word “Royal”? Started to share its embassies? Grovels before its queen?

The Right answer is Canada and for all the wrong reasons. Continue reading

‘Mock disaster’ aboard visiting US nuclear sub, and the disinformation of the Chronically Horrid

By TONY SEED

ALTHOUGH the vast majority of Canadians want an independent and nuclear-free Canada, a Canada which is a factor for peace, not war, the Government of Canada continues to welcome the unceasing “visits” of U.S. and NATO nuclear-capable warships with open arms: no questions asked. Its total hypocrisy is to the extent that it also claims to be the greatest upholder of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty under the pretext of “security” when it comes time to attacking independent states who are not kowtowing to the dictate of the United States. No harbour for ‘military zones’

By TONY SEED*

First of a series on Canada’s involvement in the Iraq war

HALIFAX (17 January 2003) – IT IS A dangerous situation indeed when the Canadian government and major media make themselves instruments of war preparations, repeating outright lies as if they were facts. One of these is that the Canadian government designated by Order-in-Council on 31 October 2002 the harbour of Halifax and the British Columbia naval bases at Nanoose and Esquimalt “military security zones” as a measure to “fight terrorism.” In fact, these zones give extraordinary and unlimited powers to the Minister of Defence and are a prelude towards establishing martial law to protect American warships and troops in Canadian harbours and waters. All the laws of the country and provisions of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms are suspended in these zones. They do not even have to be pubicly announced. Continue reading
