Demonstration in Toronto at the NATO Association of Canada on the occasion of the 60th anniversary summit of NATO held in London, UK.
Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) has announced the creation of another warmongering network of 18 universities whose main aim is to mobilize “the best and the brightest” to take up Canada’s war aims. The Network for Strategic Analysis (the “Network”) is being launched as part of Canada’s “Mobilizing Insights in Defence and Security (MINDS) programme.” DND says it is the very first fully bilingual MINDS network “that will offer cutting-edge expertise in Canada’s two official languages.” This is code for saying that Quebec youth are to be targeted second to none.

1919 (20 December): Under the heading “Scientists as Spies,” The Nation, a liberal journal based in New York, published on this date a letter by Franz Boas, the father of academic anthropology in the United States. Boas was one of the most prominent opponents of the then popular pseudo-science of eugenics and “scientific racism”, the fascist concept that race is a biological concept and that human behaviour is best understood through the typology of biological characteristics and not social and cultural factors.
Boas publicly charged that four American anthropologists, whom he did not name, had abused their professional research positions by conducting espionage in Central America for the U.S. armed forces during the First World War – precisely when U.S. imperialism had aggressively occupied Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti and was conspiring against the Mexican Revolution. Boas strongly condemned their actions, writing that they had “prostituted science by using it as a cover for their activities as spies.” Continue reading
Trudeau Liberals treatment of important questions of war and peace
Roland Paris is former Founding Director of the Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS) at the University of Ottawa, from which he is now on leave. He is a NATO academic and involved with corporate think tanks and such subversive U.S. agencies as the Halifax International Security Forum (see here) advancing a warmongering foreign policy for Canada. The National Post called Paris “the man behind Justin Trudeau’s foreign policy.” A concern for Canadians is Paris’ foreign policy preoccupations, which include increasing military spending and Canada’s role in the aggressive NATO military bloc, as well as the so-called “digital diplomacy” – the Harper government’s use of social media tools to subvert sovereign governments that Washington deems hostile to its interests (see here and here). The Post reported on December 29 that Paris was working for the Liberals before the election was called and that “his fingerprints are clearly evident in the party’s election platform.” All the while Paris was also frequently quoted, before and after the election, as an independent academic and expert commenting on Liberal foreign policy prospects. Paris is also said to be present at “most, if not all, of Trudeau’s meetings with foreign leaders.”

Roland Paris is Senior Advisor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He was appointed to this post in November 2015. Paris has played a significant role in the efforts of the Liberal intelligentsia and think tanks to sort out the problems of a Liberal foreign policy for Canada today. As a frequent commentator on Canadian foreign policy and collaborator with NATO and other institutions of U.S. imperialism such as the Halifax International Security Forum, Paris’ preoccupations are a cause for concern for Canadians, who would like to see Canada and its government as a force for peace. The U.S. military complex ties of ‘experts’ and think tanks who justify intervention against Syria and Iraq under the pretext of ‘war on terrorism’
The following report by LEE FANG in The Nation documents the military industry ties of selected U.S. media commentators and major think tanks that are participating in media warmongering and disinformation on Syria, Iraq and Islam. They are deliberately paraded as neutral, independent, non-partisan and “third party experts” to confuse the people and put them out of action. Their role is not unique to nor limited to the USA. The disinformation of these American “experts” are also widely broadcast by the media in annexed Canada. Continue reading
An analysis of the U.S. military industry ties of ‘experts’ and think tanks who ‘debated’ intervention against Syria
The following report documents the military industry ties of 22 U.S. media commentators and seven major think tanks that participated in media warmongering and disinformation on Syria. They are deliberately paraded as neutral, independent, non-partisan and “third party experts” to confuse the people and put them out of action. These conclusions are not unique to the USA. The disinformation of these media commentators are also widely broadcast in Canada. Stephen Hadley and numerous other individuals and organizations cited in this report are the same high-profile touts of U.S. imperialist strategy invited to present at the annual Halifax International Security Forum aka Halifax War Conference, which increasingly dictates the policy of the Canadian state. Furthermore, a 2001 study of role of Canadian “experts” and think tanks in advocating the “war on terror” in the Canadian media by Shunpiking Magazine revealed a similar modus operandi. – Tony Seed) (download pdf of report)
Public Accountability Initiative (Oct. 11, 2013) – DURING the public debate around the question of whether to attack Syria, Stephen Hadley, former national security adviser to George W. Bush, made a series of high-profile media appearances. Hadley argued strenuously for military intervention in appearances on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and Bloomberg TV, and authored a Washington Post op-ed headlined “To stop Iran, Obama must enforce red lines with Assad.” Continue reading

This article is part of an ongoing investigation into the Halifax International Security Forum (HISF), which was formed in 2009 as a covert arm of the U.S. state that presents itself as an “independent” and “non-partisan” body with quasi-permanent status. It was originally published on November 21, 2013 and revised on April 15, 2014; November 17 and 21, 2014; February 17, 2016; and February 28, 2021.
Topics at the 2014 HISF Forum include: “Pipeline Corridors: The Geopolical Role of Energy Infrastructure.” Given that one of the opening plenary sessions is titled “O Say, Can’t You see? The Indispensable Role of the Exceptional Superpower,” one must ask, what is behind this?
THE Halifax International Security Forum (HISF) aka the Halifax War Conference was formed in 2009 by the Washington-based German Marshall Fund and the Harper ruling clique as a parallel body to established agencies of the Canadian state such as the departments of foreign affairs and national defence. The U.S. board of directors of the HISF includes three members of the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR), the president of Freedom House, and two experienced agents with the National Endowment for Democracy, whose work in subversion throughout the world is nefarious and well-documented. The programmatic work of the CFR, which is also the “media partner” of the HISF, for the integration of Canada into the United States, has also been well exposed. Continue reading
