Introducing this website and my work

I am a journalist/publisher, longtime political activist and amateur historian, formerly resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia and since 2010-11 in first Blantyre, just south-west of the beautiful small harbour town of Meaford on Georgian Bay, and now Toronto in Ontario, Canada.

I am no blogger! Throughout my life I have always written as part of joining such collective work as Shunpiking Magazine (1996-2009) to solve definite problems facing people.

I initially created this website during the 2010 federal election to publicize my views and the missing voice of the working class, and to break the cordon sanitaire of the monopoly media and the political cartel. It was intended to last for the duration of that election.

The response was such that, in the absence of any similar space in our Maritimes region, I decided to forge ahead and build on what had been achieved with what I described as “a work in progress.” Although I moved to Ontario to assist my family, I have kept on this road.

This modest weblog has steadily grown. As of September 25, 2015 the blog contained 1,623 articles as compared to 347 items on July 6, 2011, along with 863 comments.

Ten different websites in Canada posted the article titled “Shipbuilding yes, but not the militarization of shipbuilding.” This illustrates a need for enlightened information and a desire to raise the level of the political discourse.

2014.Tony Seed on MayadeenTV

Screenshot from a one-hour interview on my observations of the Syrian president elections, June 6, 2014 on Mayadeen TV, Beirut, Lebanon. I had been invited to Syria as an independent observer, and visited seven election polls in the Latakia region and Syrian and Palestinian refugee camps in Syria and Lebanon.

The particular focus is of this weblog is international relations and the foreign and military policy of Canada. The questions of the media, journalism and disinformation; falsification of history; espionage and subversion by the big powers; Palestine, Syria and Cuba; the defence of the rights of all, and elite networks are consistent preoccupations. I am adding resource materials on the important question of war preparations and to highlight the significance of the No Harbour for War programme, which was launched by myself and my colleagues in the early 1980s in Nova Scotia and in which thousands of Haligonians have participated.

In 2015 I was proud to again stand as a candidate for the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada (MLPC) in the riding of Ottawa Nepean in the Federal Election, as well as to return to Ottawa, the city where I became politically active during the Sixties. This blog features news and commentary on elections. *

Friendship First, Competition Second

Friendship FirstI have initiated a second weblog entitled Friendship First, Competition Second at http://amateursport.wordpress.com. It is based on a simple principle: sport, arising from the people, belongs to the people by right, and should be taken back into their hands.

In a nutshell, as I wrote in 1999: “Sport mutates and the masses are reduced to spectators of gladiators in the arena when profit, commercialism and international domination is the goal. In our view, the defence of amateur sport necessitates combating the narcosis and disinformation of sport as ‘entertainment’ – an instrument of annexation by the United States, and the neo-liberal, anti-social offensive of the powerful monopolies and corporate sports media of the rich.”

I am not able to give this project the attention it deserves. I really welcome your contributions and links to articles you feel should be posted. Judging from the results of search engines, it has become a valuable resource on international sport.

I am an enthusiast of amateur sport, co-author with Curtis Coward of the bestseller The Kids’ Baseball Book (New Media Publications: 1994); president of the Nova Scotia Cricket Association for almost 20 years; player for 23 years in the Metro Mens’ Masters Basketball League since its founding in 1987; and a certified coach in three sports (cricket, basketball and baseball).

  • Offensive, vulgar or obscene words or phrases will not be accepted.
  • We reserve the right not to publish those who violate the standards of this site.
  • Personal attacks on other commentators or the proprietor of this blog will not be accepted.
  • Comments to promote a website (spam) will not be accepted.

If your comment does not appear it is either because I am simply not able to monitor comments on a daily basis or it is usually hanging in the automatic spam filter over which I have NO influence. I manually check the spam queue occasionally and release non-spam comments falsely caught in there. It does not help when you repeatedly try to publish the same comment over and over again filling up the spam queue. It just makes it more labourious for me to clean up the queue.

To “one issue” folks: Everything happening in this world must be the result of the deft work of the Zionists, the British royals, Freemasons, the Jews, Rothschilds, Islam, the Pope, the Communists, the Russians or who/whatever your favourite demon is. Sorry, the world is not that simple. If that fact is beyond your mental capacity, go elsewhere. Such simple-minded world views do not help to gain knowledge but detract from sober discussion of the issues at hand.

Spammers beware! “Akismet has protected your site from 48,888 spam comments already.”

* I recommend reading The Marxist-Leninist Weekly published by CPC(M-L). It is the most informative periodical in Canada, in my view. Its indepth research is second to none. It calls on everyone to engage in bringing about the democratic renewal of the political process as an important measure that empowers the people. Please watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwdU47i2fjA and visit http://mlpc.ca for more information on the MLPC and its program.

Facebook: Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada / Parti marxiste-léniniste du Canada

The program calls for

  • A new direction for the economy that upholds public right, not monopoly right
  • An end to paying the rich and to immediately increase funding for social programs
  • Renewal of the political process and a modern constitution
  • Defending the rights of all
  • Ending colonial injustice and
  • Establishing an anti-war government, among other things.

Please make the program available to your co-workers, family and friends and ask them to do the same.

I like your blog but please improve organization!
I inadvertently stumbled upon an Irving-Greenwashing article of which I am very interested in reading. However when I clicked the link and was redirected to your site, I don’t know where to look for it.
I am not up on technical processes and website design but consider allowing a search for articles by key words function.

Both posts I read about CFB Gagetown and CFB Suffield were very informative. Being a grandchild of Veteran who served and also a military brat those articles provided many answers to questions I had.

Please sir for my sanity .. fix the mistake you have in your article “Reality check when
Venezuela and Cuba offered aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina”. The mistake I am referring to is you stated that Little Rock Air Force base is in Arizona …. I am sure you meant to type Arkansas not Arizona. Please fix it. Thank you.
