Many of the precious objects displayed in the global north’s major museums were plundered from their home in the global south. The dubious itinerary and the illegal and unethical practices that facilitated the plunder cannot be found in the laconic texts accompanying these exhibited objects. Continue reading

Tale of two cities – Why silence when Beirut gets bombed but tears for Paris?

By Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya

Universally, governments have condemned the attacks that took place in the French capital’s northern suburb of Saint-Denis on November 13, 2015. Unquestionably, the murder and mayhem that happened in Paris was despicable and tragic. Questions need to be asked, however, as part of an important discussion about the narrative that is emerging. Oppose Canada’s participation in US-led ‘coalition of the guilty’

The Iraqi and Syrian militaries and peoples have been making headway against the foreign-backed insurgencies and their reign of terror. They can finish the job themselves without US-led airstrikes.

The Iraqi and Syrian militaries and peoples have been making headway against the foreign-backed insurgencies and their reign of terror. They can finish the job themselves without US-led airstrikes.

On Friday, October 3, the Harper war government presented a motion demanding that the Canadian Parliament rubber-stamp its existing deployment of special forces to Iraq, as well as expand the number involved, including CF-18 fighter jets, for a minimum of two months. The final vote is to take place on Oct. 6 or 7th. Not a single party is objecting on the basis that this constitutes aggression against the sovereignty of both Iraq and Syria. Only the gullible are fooled by the provision that Canadian Forces are to be confined to Iraq. The US is creating an alliance to supposedly end the pandemonium in Iraq and Syria. But what Obama has assembled, writes MAHDI DARIUS NAZEMROAYA*, is a ‘coalition of the guilty,’ comprised of the very same actors that have created the forces menacing Iraq and Syria, hiding America and NATO’s own role in creating the disorder, destruction and chaos and crimes against the peoples of the Middle East. By presenting whether or not “troops on the ground” and “mission creep” are the issue – as was done in 2010 with the US withdrawal from Iraq – Obama disinforms by diverting from the central question of the necessity to hold the U.S. and its allies accountable for their crimes against Iraq, as well as against Syria. –TS.

On September 15, 2014, a conference took place in France about the violence in Iraq. The forthright aim of the Paris conference was to convene a broad coalition to tackle the crisis in Iraq. Just as important, because of the cross-border nature of the crisis, the fighting in Syria was also part of the discussions in Paris.

This whole coalition-building process is a disingenuous deception. Two of the major regional players, which are at the forefront of fighting the cross-border insurgencies in Syria and Iraq, did not even attend the gathering. Syria was not present at the conference, because it was not invited. The Iranians were not present in Paris either. Continue reading

Syria says US and its allies must stop supporting, financing and training terrorists and work under UN

Disinformation on war against Syria and the dogs of war – think tanks, ‘experts’ and media

The U.S. military complex ties of ‘experts’ and think tanks who justify intervention against Syria and Iraq under the pretext of ‘war on terrorism’

Media-CulpaThe following report by LEE FANG in The Nation documents the military industry ties of selected U.S. media commentators and major think tanks that are participating in media warmongering and disinformation on Syria, Iraq and Islam. They are deliberately paraded as neutral, independent, non-partisan and “third party experts” to confuse the people and put them out of action. Their role is not unique to nor limited to the USA. The disinformation of these American “experts” are also widely broadcast by the media in annexed Canada.  Continue reading
