Discontent and partisan warfare against illlegal US occupation of East Syria will increase

By Ekaterina Blinova

On 22 April, the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, and Turkey held a trilateral video-conference on the situation in Syria within the framework of the Astana format. International observers have explained why the group has succeeded in maintaining the balance of interests in the region and what is behind the growing divisions within jihadi ranks.

The Astana group, a trilateral format comprising Russia, Turkey and Iran created in 2017 to tackle the Syrian crisis, acknowledged on Wednesday that the 5 March 2020 ceasefire deal had facilitated the de-escalation of the situation in Idlib, following Turco-Syrian clashes earlier this year, despite Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s* attempts to obstruct it. ‘Media used my son for their purposes’: CNN’s Amanpour challenged to go talk to ‘Aleppo boy’

Omran Daqneesh’s photo became a symbol of the tragic state of children in Aleppo. The boy’s father reveals how the Syrian militants used his young son as a scripted tool in their propaganda fight against the Syrian government. I do not recall Amanpour making political hay out of or expressing any concern about civilians killed and/or injured by armed US involvement in Iraq and elsewhere.

Compare the coverage of Mosul and East Aleppo: it tells you a lot about propaganda

In both countries, two large Sunni Arab urban centres – East Aleppo in Syria and Mosul in Iraq – are being besieged by pro-government forces strongly supported by foreign airpower. Yet the coverage is very different | PATRICK COCKBURN in The Independent

But look at how differently the international media is treating a similar situation in Mosul, 300 miles east of Aleppo, where one million people and an estimated 5,000 Isis fighters are being encircled by the Iraqi army fighting alongside Kurdish Peshmerga and Shia and Sunni paramilitaries and with massive support from a US-led air campaign. Renewed Jihadi attack on Aleppo supported by ‘Western’ propaganda fakes

By MOON of ALABAMA

(October 23) – The three days of unilateral ceasefire Syrian and Russia had announced and kept for the besieged east-Aleppo expired today. No evacuations took place, no civilians or fighters left and no aid was delivered as “rebels” inside the besieged area shelled all possible crossings. Continue reading

Phony pretexts for regime change

161001-ottawasyriaantiwar-1

Canada’s initiative at the United Nations to sanction aggression against Syria violates the UN Charter, which states that its very raison d’être is to uphold the sovereignty of nations. Canada is basing itself on the lie that what it calls diplomatic options are exhausted. The U.S. imperialists complain bitterly that Syria has not accepted voluntarily that the U.S. and NATO countries should dictate its destiny, and that institutions such as the UN cannot be used to undermine the sovereignty of its members. As part of creating pretexts for direct aggression against Syria, the U.S. and its NATO allies are taking measures that are falsely called diplomatic. These include sanctions on Syria and Russia, UN Security Council resolutions, the U.S. feigned commitment to ceasefires involving its sponsored fighters, as well as fraudulent accusations and provocations against the Syrian government. When the “diplomatic” measures do not succeed in accomplishing U.S. aims, the foremost aim of which is U.S. domination, then the imperialists assert that diplomacy has failed and aggression is justified. Inside the shadowy US PR firm that’s pushing for regime change in Syria

He who plunders ... always lives in terror

He who plunders … always lives in terror

At the initiative of the “Syria Campaign”, some communalist organizations in Canada linked with the Trudeau government are supporting terrorist forces in Syria. On October 1st, in the wake of the U.S. war crimes in Deir Ezzor and Aleppo, they held a small rally on Parliament Hill in Ottawa as part of an international campaign orchestrated from the United States. A similar rally was held in Calgary. Posing as a non-political solidarity organization, the “Syria Campaign” leverages local partners and media contacts to push the U.S. into more aggressively toppling another Middle Eastern government | MAX BLUMENTHAL*

(October 3) – On September 30, demonstrators gathered in city squares across the West for a “weekend of action” to “stop the bombs” raining down from Syrian government and Russian warplanes on rebel-held eastern Aleppo. Thousands joined the protests, holding signs that read “Topple Assad” and declaring, “Enough With Assad.” Few participants likely knew that the actions were organized under the auspices of an opposition-funded public relations company called the Syria Campaign.

No to Canada’s participation in US-led regime change in Syria

Oppose the use of force, provocation and state terrorism

Vigorous and spirited rally on October 1 outside the U.S. embassy in Ottawa organized by the Syrian Arab Association of Canada in response to the U.S. war crime in Deir Ezzor killing scores of Syrian soldiers.

The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) condemns the escalating use of force, provocation and state terrorism by U.S. imperialism and its agents in Syria aimed at sabotaging a political solution to the conflict. This includes the killing of more than 82 Syrian soldiers on September 17 by U.S. warplanes, attacks two days later on aid vehicles of the United Nations and Syrian Red Crescent killing 21 civilians and a similar provocation on September 20 killing relief workers from the International Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations. Syria: Robert Fisk reports from the front lines

A poster in Nubl featuring Vladimir Putin, Bashar al-Assad and the Hezbollah leader Sayed Hassan Nasrallah (Nelofer Pazira)

The following reports from the front lines of the war against Syria appeared online at the end of last month. Written by the veteran English journalist and author ROBERT FISK of the London Independent, they stand out from the media chorus orchestrating the disinformation of Obama and the Trudeau Liberals, who are claiming to support a “moderate opposition” in a “civil war” to justify their own intervention and warmongering against the Syrian Arab Republic and its allies. They are hysterically blaming the Syrian and Russian forces for “besieging” Aleppo, the economic and industrial heartland of Syria, and other Syrian cities and towns forcibly held hostage by terrorist forces cobbled together primarily by Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Jordan, instigated by the secret services of the United States, France, Britain, Qatar and others, including Canada. The Molotov cocktail of terrorist gangs is their creation. Under the cover of  “talks” and humanitarian gestures, they are frenziedly escalating the delivery of arms, deploying new forces for “training” and reorganizing their broken proxy forces.

Canadians are denied essential information about the real nature of this five-year-old conflict, which has caused so many lives. The number of Canadian journalists who have actually visited Syria during this period can be counted on one hand. I know of but five, three of whom are independent including this writer, and who travelled on the basis of their own resources. As a result, Canadians do not even know what they do not know.

This weblog is circulating the reports of Robert Fisk as part of our ongoing series of information updates to assist our readers as well as the anti-war forces to maintain their orientation against the massive disinformation coming from the monopoly media, including the CBC and CTV. In contrast, although Fisk refers to an elected secular government as “regime” and replicates some of the sectarian viewpoints characterizing the conflict as religious in nature, he brings out some features of the real forces in combat and portrays a “human face” and the resistance of the valiant people of Syria, their soldiers and allies against a barbarous aggression that as caused enormous tragedy.

The use of force to solve political issues and justify foreign intervention is unjustifiable. We reiterate our categorical opposition to a U.S. attack against Syria, or by any other country. Collusion by Canada under the pretext of “democracy,” “peacekeeping” and “saving refugees” is unacceptable and cannot be conciliated with. – TS (Note: Some photos have been added.)

Boston Globe: The media is misleading the public on Syria

The role of the monopoly media to disinform

Media-Culpa

Finally, an American journalist blasts the US media coverage of Syria. “Coverage of the Syrian war will be remembered as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the American press. Reporting about carnage in the ancient city of Aleppo is the latest reason why.” STEPHENKINZER* details features of how the monopoly media falsifies and negates the reality of the forces in combat in Syria, prettifies terrorists as “moderates” and “freedom fighters,” and portrays a war on Syria as a religious, sectarian or “civil war.” Continue reading

Syria’s UN Ambassador Bashar al-Ja’afari on sovereignty, terrorism, and the failure of the UN

Dr. Bashar al-Ja’afari, a veteran diplomat and Syrian Arab Republic Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations | Al-Akhbar English/Eva Bartlett

By EVA BARTLETT*

On January 8, in his sparsely-furnished New York City office, the Syrian Arab Republic Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar al-Ja’afari, sat down with Al-Akhbar for an interview. Fluent in four languages (Arabic, French, English and Persian), diplomat for three plus decades, Dr al-Ja’afari had much more to say than the generous half hour allowed or what the monopoly media will report. The distinguished diplomat has held his position at the UN since 2006, and lives restricted to a 25-mile radius of New York City. Defiant as always, he discussed the challenges he faces at the UN, explained why the organization has lost its way, and censured Western states and media for their hostility toward the Syrian government.

On five ISIS photos in the Ottawa Citizen

My letter to “Defence Watch”, a daily blog in the Ottawa Citizen, maintained by well-known military correspondent David Pugliese, who earlier today published an item entitled Photos: The aftermath of ISIL’s rout of an Iraqi Army unit. The commentary, slightly revised for this publication, was published.

Interesting photos, but has “Defence Watch” posted a single photo of successful actions of the army of the Syrian Arab Republic in combatting ISIS, Al-Nusra, Free Syrian Army and other “moderate terrorists”??

Dispatch from Damascus

A revealing report from MANUEL OCHSENREITER* of the German monthly newsmagazine ZUERST! breaks the embargo of the warmongering monopoly media about the actual situation in Syria.

Poster of President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus

ACCORDING to the mainstream Western media, a ‘civil war’ is raging in Syria. Campaigning groups like the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights make extravagant claims about huge numbers of casualties (they claim that around 20,000 people have already died) at the hands of the Syrian state security forces. Independent journalists, it is alleged, are not allowed to report directly from Syria, and the regime does not permit free press activities. Continue reading
